This is probably old news to you rescues that have been around for a while, and you already know that this can be done, but since we at H.O.P.E. are new at this, we are verrry proud of our good fortune :-) The barn we are at is old and in need of repair, so we went looking for cheap or discontinued paint. We found some discontinued stuff at $2.00 a can at Ace and when Tara (the great sweet talker) explained that we are a non-profit horse rescue, the manager said we could have all we wanted for free!! He asked for our tax id # for his records and we ended up with 50 cans of free paint. Most of it is white but we did end up a few cans of "sunrise yellow". Any suggestions?? *g* The manager also suggested that if we take a letterhead/tax id to a local equipment rental store, they will most likely donate a paint sprayer to us for the day for the rafters and higher places. We will be doing that this week. Anyway, has anyone done this before? Did anyone know this type of support was available? We didn't and we were thrilled to death!! Thanks for listening! Most of them picked up notebook paper, binders and other school supplies for disadvantaged children - we would take the tax ID number and donate the supplies or give a huge discount. Store managers are usually happy to "help out" especially if it means they will be receiving *any* kind of publicity. ========== Rachel Kenyon ====== To: equinerescue@MyList.net From: HVIDEO885@aol.com Subject: Re: EQ-ResQ: Money saving ideas Date: Mon, 20 Sep 1999 21:57:38 EDT Ria, There are many companies around us that help in that way also. Did you (or any of the rest of you) know that Lowe's, Home Depot, and sometimes Builder's Square will sell overstock lumber at cost to non-profits! Construction companies have even given us their extra lumber they have over bought for certain jobs. We have listed our name with several construction/remodeling companies for old bath tubs they take out of places that we use for water troughs. Yes it is latex, but we only got about 20 cans of the exterior, the rest are interior. Beggars can't be choosers, huh?! Thanks for all of your inputs!
